Our Blind Friend Loses Best Friend: Seeing-Eye Dog Dies

We got some sad news yesterday. Please pray for our friend, Bob Baillie, who suddenly lost his best friend and Seeing Eye dog, Devon, on Thursday after the discovery of advanced bone cancer.

Bob became blind when a doctor made a mistake during Bob's heart surgery about six years ago. After the operation, he woke up blind after an incorrect artery had been cut. He became angry and bitter for over a year.

God used Devon to melt Bob's hardened heart. He brought Bob freedom and independence. Devon was a beautiful, 110 pound Bernese Mountain dog.

Above are pictures of Bob with Devon, and my daughter, Mary, who is also blind. Devon was so gorgeous and smart that when we would go to dinner with Bob, it was the closest thing to being descended on by paparazzi. Cell phones and people would pop up to get a picture of him. Devon's beauty was a magnet. He was on FB for goodness' sake.

Many have posted condolences here.

Bob has always told me, "You have no idea the bond that I have with him. No idea. I can't put it into words."

I cannot imagine what it was like for him to say goodbye to the dog who had changed his life. God cared about Bob's relationship with his loyal furry friend who guided him.

God cares about the details of each of our lives. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." ~1 Peter 5:7

Bob is the founder of Mira USA. Bob's passion is getting Seeing Eye dogs for children.

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord." ~Psalm 150:6

"...mourn with those who mourn" ~Romans 12:15

"...a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn..." ~Ecclessiastes 3:4
