Our family was so blessed this week to have Elisabeth Elliot, her husband Lars, and their two caregivers in our home for a weekend visit. Okay, do I even need to tell anyone what an honor and blessing it was to have them in our home? Her two young caregivers have such servant spirits and blessed us so much by just meeting them.

One of the highlights for me was coming home from our church on Sunday and singing hymns together in our living room (yes, it was such a huge accomplishment to get us all ready, fed, dressed, and out the door early enough to get there before church began!) Thank you, Lord!

We tried to sing Elisabeth's favorites, which I had written on a sheet of paper ever since she gave them to me about 10 years ago. She had told me, "I have about 70 favorites..." Here's a link to 3 of the hymns we sang (the man you hear singing is Elisabeth's husband; I didn't include them for the quality of our singingsome parts were hard for us to sing together; I wanted you to hear some of her favorite hymns and words as we sang them to her so you could "feel" you were here in spirit, too ☺)

Click the hymn title to hear us sing:

Beneath the Cross of Jesus "I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face..."
How Great Thou Art (singing all the verses—the only way Elisabeth taught us!)
And Can it Be (they always ended on this hymn when they had hymn singing at their house.)

{Then Mary serenaded Elisabeth and Lars by singing them, "Over the Rainbow." Mary loved singing them the line, "Dreams really do come true," because having them back in our home was a dream come true for Mary, and she has saved Elisabeth a dried yellow rose for her since March! Just before they left the next day, Mary serenaded them again this time with "For Good," from Wicked. She loved singing the line, "Because I knew you, I have been changed for good," and she sang it straight into their dear faces }

My blind daughter, Mary, loved sitting with and talking to Elisabeth. When Mary was born, Elisabeth told me I had been given, "The Gift of Suffering," a gift that Elisabeth herself had been given with the death of two husbands.

I couldn't resist capturing this photo of Mary's hand in Elisabeth's.
My prayer is that my girls, Mary and Blair, and the other young women of our day
who are now two generations away from Elisabeth,
learn the Biblical truths that Elisabeth taught.
