More on Visiting Elisabeth Elliot & Wednesday's Prayer Girls & LinkUp Party

Hello Everyone and Happy almost-October! I hope it is as beautiful where you live as it is in North Carolina in the fall! These are beautiful days. I have much to share with you in the next few blogs. Recently I have been able to sit under two very excellent teachers who gave sound teaching. I got to listen to and meet Stormie Omartian. I'll soon tell you what I learned from this wonderful teacher who God wonderfully saved from a life that was heading toward destruction.

I also want to tell you what I learned from a wonderful parenting expert, John Rosemond. He recently came to Raleigh, and I loved learning from his years of parenting and a husband of 46 years! Both of those will be in upcoming blogs. I don't want to rush those blogs, and I want you to see their photos, too.

Many of you know that my daughter, Mary, and I were recently invited to come and stay with Elisabeth Elliot and her husband, Lars, for a few days. We had a ball.

Their home on the edge of the Massachusetts Bay was breathtaking, and Elisabeth, along with her architect planned every inch of it. Even her bathtub overlooked the sea! (Nothing but trees and vast rocks out the window and of course miles and mile of the beautiful blue sea.) You better believe I took a bath in her tub. I took more than one, but I had to reach up from my hands to see out of the window. Elisabeth is one tall woman, and had it designed show she could just look out.

She had a beautiful plague by a huge picture window overlooking the sea in their living room which had Psalm 96:5 on it: "The sea is His and He made it." Oh, how I loved it. Well guess what? This week my older daughter, Blair, surprised me with a calligraphy print of Psalm 95:5. We are actually building a home right now that is on the sea, and I am going to put it up by a big window there, just like Elisabeth did. You can see Elisabeth's on earlier blogs I've written on Elisabeth by going to my home page and clicking on her photo on the top right. Here's my print that my daughter gave me:

There were so many of the wonderful words I've heard so much from Elisabeth through her speaking and writing around the house. Here are some you might remember her saying that hang in her home:

Above is a print in Elisabeth's kitchen of a quote by Jim Elliot. To his 15-year-old sister, Jane, Jim Elliot wrote: Fix your eyes on the rising Morning Star. Don't be disappointed at anything or over elate, either. Live every day as if the Son of Man were at your door, and gear your thinking to the fleeting moment. Just how can it be redeemed? Walk as if the next step would carry you across the threshold of Heaven. Pray. That saint who advances on his knees never retreats. (In Elisabeth's book, Shadow of the Almighty)

It's good to copy our mentors who point us to the Lord, as we draw nearer to God ourselves. Remember how Paul said in the Bible to "imitate" him? I pray we can each be a role model to someone younger than us, as it says the older women are to teach the younger women in Titus 2.

And this final quote for today was in Elisabeth's office. She had written it to me in a letter. We would do well to keep it out where we can easily read and meditate on it, too! If Elisabeth had it beside her typewriter, I think I just might type it out and put it beside my laptop.

  1. Please pray for my publisher, Tim Lowry and the wonderful staff at Ambassador International as they get the first proofs of my first book out to the media and make final changes so the book will be ready to be released in early 2015! {Pssst....I included much I learned from Elisabeth Elliot in the book!} What can I pray for you or your loved ones?

  3. Prayers for our 22 year old son Stuart, my fear is that he is bipolar. He is hitting one of his lows and is also very stubborn. Please pray for a diagnosis and treatment that will truly help him. Why does being a parent have to be so hard?
Prayers for Libby to continue her wonderful progress, she is really doing well. But she needs to gain some weight. Doctor isn't concerned, but Mom is. Also that we (my husband & I) will be able to keep her sometime. My heart hurts that we don't get to spend time with them.

    1. Oh dear Heavenly Father, we come to you with Stuart for you are the Ultimate Parent, you are our Father who knows how to parent us perfectly. The Hagans need you Lord for practical help for Stuart and for Stuart to desire help, seek it, and get it. Lord, work in Stuart's life supernaturally as only You can do, Father. Help him as he is low, and You are near to the brokenhearted. We also lift up Libby to you for her weight gain, and peace for all. Your will be done as these dear grandparents want to get to see them in love and take care of Libby, too. We ask these things in the precious name of Jesus, the Name above all names. Amen
