Lovin' My Mom Planner for 2014 & Time Management Tip!

Every October, I start preparing for the upcoming year by purchasing my new calendar monthly tabs. I purchased a new planner for 2014! It's the momAgenda planner. I just love pink, and of course it caught my eye because it is ... PINK!

People didn't go around in Bible times with a planner under their arm, but studies show you can accomplish more and be more effective if you have a systematic approach to planning your day, week, and year.

For over 15 years, I've used the Noble Planner developed by Gregg Harris, and I just love it. I've taught classes on it. I'm taking a break from it for a year, just to change it up a bit—but I'm not taking a break from it's Biblical principles and practices.

I  learned time management principles from Gregg Harris' seminar over 15 years ago, and it totally changed my approach to how I see each week beginning on Sunday. You can order his distinctively Christian approach to time management here. I'll be coupling years of practice of his approach to time management with my new planner.

If you live in the Raleigh or Wilmington, North Carolina areas, I got my momAgenda at Charlotte's Gift Store. They are having a 25% off in store sale right now on EVERYTHING! You may also want to take a peek at their site, where they sell some of what's in their store.

Good time management always begins on the first day of the week with church attendance in Worship with other believers where Christ is lifted up. Planning how you will spend your time is totally different when you plan your week in the afterglow of worship. I usually do that on Sunday afternoons when everything is quiet.

If you wait to plan your week on Monday morning, Monday morning's work will start barging in on you, and you won't have time to pray, then plan your week proactively, and prioritize what you just planned. Here are some questions to ponder before you plan your week:

What have you planned this week to grow spiritually? Have you set a daily time to read your Bible and pray? What personal item needs to be done this week? Schedule your annual physical? A Haircut? What personal goal do you have that needs the next step this week? Get that book from the library you want to read?

What relationship in in your life needs time this week? Your spouse? What activity can you enjoy together? A walk? Dinner out? Do you need to schedule intimacy with your spouse to insure you make time to  relate as husband and wife if there doesn't seem to be time for spontaneous closeness this week? Does a specific child need one on one time with you? What activity can you do together to enjoy one another or to allow time to talk?

What friend, coworker, or extended family member do you need to schedule time with?

What community or church obligation needs attention this week? What client or employee in your business needs special attention this week?

What in your home and property needs maintenance this week? Need to schedule your car inspection? An appointment with a painter?

What political or civic duty needs to be done this week? A letter to your representative? Vote this week?

Certainly all of these areas don't need attention every week! But don't let everyone's crises prevent you from doing the things that are important in your life. Ready the little pamphlet called, "The Tyranny of the Urgent." It's a classic, and excellent about not letting the urgent things take over our lives—while crowding out the important things.

God will show you if you pray first, and seek His involvement in your planning after you've spent time with Him which will totally change your perspective.

"Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil." -Ephesians 5:15-15

"But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands." -Isaiah 32:8

  1. thanks for the article. As the article points out, it starts with having a good plan or a to do list.

One of the challenges I observed was that lot of things I need to get done or need remembering tend to be buried in my emails or pop in my head at random points but transferring them from email or my head into a calendar appointment or to-do-list is just too tedious today.

It occurred to me that is why busy (and rich) people hire personal assistants that they can just "tell" what they need to get done.

That led me to ask the question - why can't everyone get a free personal assistant that they can email (or forward/CC existing emails) or text to and it will get on my calendar or task list?

As a result, we have created a service: https://www.joggleme.com to do exactly that. It gives you a free personal assistant that you can send or forward emails, include on emails, send text messages and it helps you manage your life for you easily.

Please check it out and give us feedback.
